Movecation Day 6

Day six, Thursday January 3rd, was spent driving from Carlsbad, NM to San Antonio, TX. We were on the road by 8 and lost another hour of travel time when we entered the Central Time Zone. Carlsbad isn't far from the Texas border and we eagerly pointed out the crossing as we hit our last state border. But we were slightly surprised to find this just after our crossing.

Not just snow, but snow sticking! Wasn't exactly expecting to find that in NW Texas. El Paso received several inches of snow that day which is unusual. My mom grew up in El Paso and can count the times she saw snow on one hand. Some severe system was making its way across the southern US and we got to witness the craziness of it. It was all over the news that night when we got to San Antonio.

Our original plan had been to rest that night when we got to SA but we arrived at 4 and it wasn't raining as it was forecast for the next morning. So we quickly dropped off our luggage and headed to the Tower of the Americas to see our new home state from a different point of view. Info about the Tower of the Americas can be found here: http://www.toweroftheamericas.com/ Very glad we saw it that night because it was very overcast and rainy the next morning. We walked over to the Tower as we were staying just a few blocks from it. It was about 45 degrees out with a breeze so we walked briskly to stay warm. But after all the sitting we'd been doing it was a nice change.

Waiting for the elevator to take us up. (Jason's wondering if I'm going up also or if I'm just going to take pictures.)

There's both an inside viewing area and an outside viewing area. But we only made one trip around the outside because it was really cold that high up.

See how the hotel down below has the word LOVE spelled out in lights?

Inside, where it's warm.

Our admission to the tower included a 4D ride called Skies Over Texas. We got to watch a 3D film (with smells, hence 4D) that featured some of the biggest attractions/areas of the state of Texas. It was a great introduction to our new home state. We then walked around downtown just a little bit looking for a place to eat. We found one with some good food and had dinner.

Then back to the hotel. Most of the hotels we had stayed in on this trek did not have rooms that adjoined AND had two queen sized beds so most nights there was a girl's room and a boy's room. This night was no exception. We settled down and had just about turned off the lights on our side when there was an urgent knock on the door. Nathan said, "Dad needs you to come quick!"

I knew what that meant. Someone had thrown up. I sent Nathan, Jaron, and Darik over to the girl's room while I helped Jason get Caleb cleaned up. Once we had him ready for bed it was decided that the best place for Caleb to sleep was near the toilet. Now, these hotels have WAY too many pillows on the bed so we got a little creative. That's right, we had him sleep in the bathtub.

Turned out to be a good call because he needed it, but clean up was much easier this way! Good thing he's so short. =)
