Busy Tuesday the 21st

Tuesdays are typically busy for us, that is youth night and scouts are also held on that night so five of the seven kids have somewhere to be each Tuesday. But this particular Tuesday took on a new level of craziness. There was no school on the 20th for MLK, Jr. day and that was when we held Darik's party. Mondays are when cross country meets usually take place but with no school that day the district meet was scheduled for Tuesday at 4. I got Jaron out of school a tiny bit early to make it over to the meet in time for Anna's race. Jason got off work a little early also and we all met at the park, Rachel had to work so she was MIA.

We met up with Anna before her heat, she ran in the elite group which was the best 6 for each team, and took some pictures with her coach and team.

The course was set up in a large oval with the starting line in the center. So think of a clock with the start in the center where the hands are attached. Then they ran straight up to twelve o-clock. Then they moved around to 9, then 6, then 3 and back up to 12 for one more circle. The finish line was situated at about 2. Without Anna knowing, we split up when we left her at the starting line. Jason went to 12, Jaron and Darik to 9, Nathan and Caleb to 6, and Sarah and I were at 3.

We all cheered her on each time she passed us. When the race was over I asked how she felt and she said it was sooooo cool to have so many people cheer her on as she moved along the course. She ran a good race and came in 6th in the district! She earned a medal for her place.

They only medaled 6 in a race of about 60 runners. But we were unable to stay to the end of the heats for the medal ceremony. That evening was solo & ensemble contest for her school's band. So home we hurried to have dinner and let her shower. I took her over to the middle school by 6:30 to compete there. Jason took everyone else over to the church because it was Pinewood Derby time!

After Anna competed, and received a one for her performance (the best you can get), we made our way to the church also.

Jaron, Anna and Nathan had youth night but the rest of us supported Darik as he ran his cool TRON themed derby car. True to form, our child did not place in the race. But he had a great time designing and building his car.

He got Most Innovative Design award for his car. And it should be noted that while he did not win or place, the car did perform well. It was not THE slowest car there so we're grateful for small blessings. =)
