October 2016

More football, more band but with Saturday competitions added, Darik's band played for an 8th grade football game so you'll see some pics of him in this sequence doing that.
Darik's band also participated in a district wide event held every other year. They bring all the middle school bands in the district together to watch all the high school bands perform for one another. Then at the end all the middle school bands come down to the field to create one, large district band to perform a few songs together. The middle schools stand in front of the band of the high school it is zoned for. It's a sight to behold. I can't say it always goes off without a hitch but it's definitely a lot of fun to watch.
My mother came to visit the very end of Sept for the first week of Oct. She came to celebrate her birthday and to visit her mother, whose health was continuing to fail. My mom also took some time to take the kids to the zoo. Some of those pictures are in September's post. They got to see a cool dinosaur display at the zoo and this is a picture of that fun time.
My mom left on October 8th and my grandmother passed away October 16th. Jason was out of town, visiting his parents from the 13th-19th. My mom arrived the evening of the 16th and on Monday morning I drove her and my uncle Kent to Waco to prepare for my grandmother's burial on Tuesday morning. We returned home Tuesday evening after laying her to rest. Jason was able to go hunting with his dad and brother over that same weekend. An out-of-state license is cost-prohibitive but he he had a great time being up in the brisk cold of WA state walking around all the hills and draws of Eastern Washington. He got to spend time with his parents, his brother, a brother-in-law, a niece and some nephews. In all, it was a great visit for him. Views of WA that we just don't get to see down here.
Jason's birthday was the 28th and we celebrated it but we forgot to take any pictures. =( Halloween was celebrated and we had a good time at a neighborhood block party hosted by new neighbor to our neighborhood. Everyone chipped in to make a giant feast of food and then the kiddos ran off to trick-or-treat with the teenagers supervising along the way. I only managed to some of the kids in costume. And please don't ask me what Darik was, I can't remember.
Of course news from Elder Lindh is always a fun thing to receive and he sometimes includes pictures for us.
There was a classic car show at the park in downtown Friendswood that Jason took the kids to after hitting up the library one Saturday afternoon.
And that sums up October!
