The place the meet was held is called Shadow Mountain. There is a brutal hill the runners have to climb. Because the course never doubled back on itself as other courses do there was no way to stand in the middle and cheer him on multiple times. So we divided and conquered. I went to the starting line and then moved over to the finish area. Jason and the four youngest hiked to the top of the hill to be there in the middle of the race to cheer Nathan on.
At the starting line.
A view of the mountain/hill from the starting line as the boys take off.
The very end of the race.
He had a great run, setting a personal best. When I asked him how he felt about his run he said, "Do you know how cool it is to come up a hill and have your own, personal cheer section? It is so cool! People were looking at my family all calling my name and cheering me on and it was the best feeling ever!" I think we did right by him.
He had a (short) good season and is looking forward to running track in the spring. After the race we went to IHOP for dinner. (Thanks Grampa!) It was a wonderful evening.
