July 4, 2009

We started our Fourth of July activities early Saturday morning. On Friday we were working on some closets and realized we had some stuff that needed to be returned to my parents' home. We called to ask if they would be interested in driving 3 hours to Boardman, OR to meet us. My mom, my sister, and my grandfather were available to meet us. So everyone left their respective towns about 7 and met at the park at Boardman. We didn't tell the kids where we were going or who would be there so they were very surprised to see Miller Grampa, Aunt Celina and cousin Megan. Being smart kids they'd figured out a gramma was involved somehow, just weren't sure which one.

Throwing rocks into the river before I broke out the swimsuits. (I was letting the sunscreen work itself in first.)

Sarah kept clapping each time she threw a rock in.

Rah and dad rumblin'.

Finally some swimming. Didn't get shots of them all but they spent quite a while in the cool water.

The City of Boardman was having festivities for the Fourth of July. We didn't know this with our impromptu trip but there was a big water slide and bouncy house that the kids took advantage of.

Grandparents to see.

We left Boardman a little after 2 and drove home. We had a barbecue for dinner and after cleaning up we headed down to Jason's office. His break room faces the river where fireworks were being set off. We got to hang out there a while watching t.v. and playing pool waiting for the show. I had some time to kill and figured out how to use the timer function on my camera. That's a cool deal.

Playing with toys from dad's office.

Looking west as the sun was setting.

Once with the flash.

And once without it.

Here's what we came for, fireworks.

What a great way to cool down on a hot day. Sounds like you had a very busy day and evening. How were the fireworks?
