We had a good day today. When all the kids woke up we got started on presents. There were stockings and one present each from Santa. In our family we each draw a name of one person to buy a gift for. I got a gift for Caleb, Caleb for Darik, Darik for Jaron, Jaron for Rachel, Rachel for Nathan, Nathan for Anna, Anna for Dad, Dad for Sarah and Sarah for me. Each of these gifts were a hit. I'm pleased to see the thoughtfulness the children had for each other and how well they did at selecting for another person in the family. However, they really struggled with keeping secrets. I often found them whispering about their gifts in the days before Christmas. Not sure who's was a surprise and who's wasn't but they definitely had fun. And then there was one gift for all the children to share - a new Dance Dance Revolution game and dance pad.
A secret Santa dropped off gifts to our children Tuesday night. The kids were very excited by this. They were so bummed to not be in Portland as we had planned and the arrival of gifts Wednesday morning added some excitement to their vacation. They each got a nice gift that they loved. Someone chose well for each of them. If they happen to read this blog, thank you so much! It really helped add to their Christmas to offset the major change in plans and not being able to travel for the holiday.
Our neighbor to the east of us rang the doorbell last night at 9:20. She dropped by a card and it contained gift certificates to the movie theater. So this afternoon I took all the kids to see the Tale of Desperaux. They had a great time. Jason stayed home and cooked our Christmas dinner, yummy prime rib, and did some work on his files. He's WAY behind this week due to all the time he's spent shoveling since the 17th. I must say he has done a great job of digging us out of this snow. The kids and I have only had to shovel a few times. He does a wonderful job of taking care of his family. Every morning that we have snow he's out there clearing it off the driveway so that we can get out. Thanks Jae!
The children each received a new comforter from Jason and me. Gramma and Grampa Ski got them sheets to match. None of it was a surprise because they each got to pick it out for themselves but it was fun to finally get it. Sarah's was ordered the 12th of December and was scheduled for delivery on the 18th by UPS. It finally showed up the evening of the 26th.
