Our weekend

To some of you it may appear I am never happy without a "project". And while that may be true I'd submit that I'm simply fine-tuning the way our household runs. When we first moved into our home 2 years ago we found shelves in the garage left by the previous owners. We decided to take advantage of those and put our food storage on them. At that time that was a great idea. However we have realized since then that storing food in a garage has some serious drawbacks. The biggest being the change in temperatures. Hot, cold, hot, cold is not good for canned items and a few other things as well. So I've been thinking of a solution and came upon one last week. We implemented it this weekend.

We store clothing to be handed down and winter coats and such in rubbermaid containers. We need to get to these about every couple of months. Since they aren't perishable they don't need to be stored indoors, where they've been for the last two years. So we decided to swap food storage with clothing storage. BUT of our two upstairs bedrooms not being used for sleeping in, Jason's office was in the room better suited for the food storage due to wall space and layout. I also figured out, by tape measure and graph paper, that I could get his exercise bike up into his office, and out of the playroom, if it moved to the other bedroom. So here are some fun "before" and "after" shots.

Garage food storage before.

Garage clothing storage after. (The desk is Deborah's and will be moving soon.)

Old storage room before.

Now Jason's office after.

Jason's old office before.

Food storage room after.

One of the cool things Jason did when we moved things around was change the design of his "desk" for the treadmill. Notice in the old picture that his shelf was held on the handles of the treadmill with pink foam as the "legs". Now the shelf stores up on the wall of his office and can lower down when needed and fold away when not. This also lets the treadmill be folded up when not in use which is very helpful from a safety standpoint. We don't want a Mike Tyson tragedy at our house.

In other news of the weekend Nathan went on his first Boy Scout campout. It was an over-nighter with other 11 year old boys. He had a great time and learned a lot. He is starting on his Boy Scout requirements to earn his Eagle rank.

Looks good! Isn't it amazing how much of our lives is spent dealing with and rearranging our stuff?! It's all (or mostly) necessary, though, and it's gotta go somewhere. Good job finding a workable solution and making it practical.

Do you guys ever get a chance to relax? When we camp in July, you should finally get some down time. There are no projects at a camp out. Hope you have a great summer. Let me know if you are planning a trip to Priest Lake. The kids and I might tag along. You make it sound so wonderful. Talk to you soon.
